I was clearing the table the other night, picked up my glass of tea and then proceeded to drop it. It spilled; all over the table, chairs and floor. Good stuff. Usually, a spill is a spill and I don’t mind. But, this time I happened to get a dog toy.
Now, my older dog could care less about toys. He used to occasionally play ball, but the old man just wants to come sit on top of you anymore. And he’s a great lap dog, at 90 lbs, no problem!
But, my other dog needs his stuffed toys. They are like his Linus blanket. No joke. He carries them around with him everywhere. When he gets excited, he goes and grabs one. When he gets scared, he goes and grabs one. When it’s bed time, he goes and grabs one. When it’s time to eat, he goes and grabs one (and proceeds to place it in his food bowl).
We have resorted to getting him the stuffingless ones because he took great enjoyment in ripping the stuffing out of them. Before we found the stuffingless ones, we would come home and stuffing would be all over the house. We called them Moosacres; his name is Moose.
He has gone through a few different ones now. Skunks, squirrels, fox. His favorite is a fox. That is what I spilled on. It was the 2nd fox he’s gotten and there is something about that one he just prefers, even when it was new and he had another “broken in” one. So, when I spilled tea all over his fox, I didn’t know what to do. By my husband’s advice, we threw it away when Moose wasn’t looking.
Well, he walked around the house crying, looking for it. Literally. Then, over the next couple of days, every time he would see me, he would go grab the other stuffed toy he had, lay down and start crying. I could not believe what a baby he was.
Now he has a new fox, version #3. He’s happy again.
