Kids –
The different attitudes and personalities throughout the day of a child is amazing. They can truly go from the sweetest most helpful person in the world to the biggest butthead you’ve ever met!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids. But OH MY GOODNESS, they can be buttheads.
I went for a run over the weekend. I left early in the morning before the kids were up. When I get back, my youngest is taking care of my oldest who wasn’t feeling well.
Then, she takes care of me. 22 miles is a long way and she knows it takes me a minute to get moving again right after I get back from those long runs. She brings me water, she brings me ice packs, she brings me Gatorade, she makes my smoothie for me. No complaints and keeps asking what else I need; even offers to let me use her shoulder to walk me around while I walk it off.
Then, it’s the end of the world when it’s time to get a shower. It interrupts play time and that just can’t happen. I swear that kid wouldn’t mind never taking a shower as long as she could be outside running around. She NEVER stops.
Then, it’s the end of the world when it’s time to come in for dinner. Again, in interrupts play time and, again, she would go hungry if it meant she could play outside 24 hours a day.
And THEN, at bed time she lets me know that her gym clothes needed to be washed. I did ALL the laundry on Saturday. I tell her that. She says “well you didn’t take my basket”. My instructions to them when laundry was being done was “bring me all your clothes”. All that was in her basket were her gym clothes and the clothes from the day before. Proving that I did all of her clothes already. The little terd forgot to take her gym clothes out of her bag and wanted to make it look like my fault.
It entertains me how they have so many ends of the spectrum. My oldest goes from her nose in a book not realizing there is a real world out there to wanting to tell me everything to rolling her eyes at every word that comes out of my mouth thinking it is the worst thing in the world to have to talk to me.
Obviously, looking back I was a perfect child! No, but seriously, it does make me wonder how I was. I wish I could go back and see how I reacted to different things and get back in the head of myself as a kid. It would be interesting to know if it really is the same. Kids definitely keep parents on their toes. It’s fun, never knowing what to expect. I just wish I understood better sometimes!
