Welcome Home Daddy
After a long three weeks, we finally got to welcome home the man of the house. It was nice that he was coming back on a Sunday this time; that meant the girls got to be fully invested in his return. And were they ever!
They cleaned all day so everything was nice for dad when he got home. They put some fake flowers in a vase to put as a centerpiece on the kitchen table. They picked dinner for him. They made signs and banners. All day long, they were working on everything so it would be perfect.
An American Flag/Camouflage duct tape wallet was made as a gift. It took 3 tries, but she got it perfectly. She even needed to borrow a credit card to make sure she made the pockets the right size.
It is so hard having to be away for so long. Three weeks isn’t even really that long comparatively speaking, but any awayedness is no fun. But, it is so cute watching kids try and make the welcome home perfect. During the distance, we all try to keep ourselves busy so we don’t think about it. The busier we are, the faster it goes, the less time we have to notice that something isn’t right.
But, the last couple days are always the hardest. No matter how busy you keep yourself, the excitement starts bubbling and, especially the kids, think of how to make everything perfect for a welcome home.
And now things get to go back to normal. Mom won’t be running around like a crazy lady trying to get everything taken care of (ok, that’s not fully true, mom always runs around like a crazy lady) but she’ll have some relief again and dad can step in and make everything better. It’s a good system we have!
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder but I don’t know if that is fully true. Absence just makes the heart lonely. I suppose it does make one realize how much they are missing, though – don’t know what you got ‘til it’s gone.
