I saw a commercial the other day, I think it was advertising a car of some sort, where a son was telling his father that he quit his job and sold everything he owned to buy a car and drive across the country. Of course, the father was supposed to come off as shocked and disappointed at first and then he announces that he wished he had done that.
Then, they show the son driving and the father is in the passenger seat on their way to wherever.
I immediately turned to my husband and said “let’s go!” Obviously, for now, I was joking. But, it is something I’ve always wanted to do; just drive across the country stopping wherever and whenever and just doing whatever I want. It’s a retirement plan though.
When the kids are out of the house doing their own things and we have 2-3 months where we can just go – that’s the plan. A few months ago there was something going around with the best route to hit all 48 contiguous states and hitting all the major landmarks in each. I printed it out and have it pinned to a cork board at home. That list will stay there until it can be used!
For anyone with the same adventurous spirit, the map can be found here.
