They all seem to want to play, they’ve all played before this time. I know a couple of them are looking at the thought of moving up to the next division in a season or two so I know they want to work. The biggest thing with them is not falling asleep. The serving was good, I was happy with how well we served. We will be playing some better serving teams throughout the season, so we’ll have to work more on how to play those harder, deeper serves.
My Grays, I love those kids! They played so good. They had two games and went 5-1 in their sets. They played hard, there serving was up and down but, they played good for the most part. The first set of their first game they had so many good plays that just didn’t fall their way. They never got frustrated or gave up, though. They kept going. It was so good.
The set they lost was the 2nd set of their 2nd game. And I just didn’t know what else to tell them. They were reacting slow to everything. It was like they were in slow motion while everything else was at normal speed. That is what we are trying to work on the most, just the opposite. We need to slow the game down so we see everything happen before it fully happens.
But, they had the least overall mental errors that they’ve had in a while. There were a couple, of course, but they really tightened that up. The games were as close as they were in a couple of sets because of a few missed serves and a few good plays that just didn’t work out. I’m so excited this season. I even started keeping stats for them again so they can hold themselves accountable based on what I tracked for them. I went away from it last season because it is a lot of extra work and harder to pay attention to coaching when I’m writing the whole time, but, I think it is good for them.
Tonight is my oldest’s game with another coach. That should be quite an experience for me!
