Pick Up – July 12th
Now the staycation was officially over. We had to drive one more time, the almost two hours to pick up our kids. We were excited to see them again (and stop checking the weather for somewhere we weren’t even going to be).
The dogs missed them as well. One of our dogs will literally mope around the house and pout and cry and check every room of the house when anyone is missing. He’s a very emotional guy. My older pup trusts us a little more at this point and will just pout a little more than usual.
But, we were off on one last journey for the week. When we got there, all the kids were just hanging out messing around outside, waiting. My youngest thought she was funny and walked right past me – too cool for mom already! My oldest asked why we didn’t put her in the camp for two weeks. She seemed to have made some good friends there and a couple of them were staying longer.
The two hour drive home was interesting. They had so much to say and were unbelievably obnoxious singing all of their newly learned camp songs and telling the stories of every minute of every day. From the daily weather reports, it looked like it was supposed to rain every day so we were ecstatic that they had that much fun. It sounds like it did rain more days than it did not but they would get a good half day outside in each day.
I had felt bad that we ended up sending them on such a crappy weather week (it hurt my plans too!) but the camp obviously knew what it was doing enough to have backup plans for a week’s worth of rain.
We went out to lunch on the way home and got to hear more stories. My youngest got mac & cheese and then proceeded to let everyone know that camp had the best mac & cheese. Apparently mom’s mac & cheese isn’t even good enough anymore!
My kids are brutally honest about EVERYTHING. It’s a great thing but I do wonder how and when their lack of filter is going to affect them. I don’t want to be the one to teach them to filter the truth because it shouldn’t be necessary, but this world doesn’t accept that very often anymore. It’s a fine line!
Anyways, when we finally got back home for the day and for the week, it was time to crash out! A little bit of Disney is a wonderful way to relax in the house. I swear I wasn’t waiting for them to get home just to have an excuse to watch the Disney Channel again! J
The dogs were happy everything was finally back to normal. Moose didn’t have to hold the door to the garage open hoping the rest of the family was coming in this time because everyone was finally home.
