So, 5th grade continuation was quite the experience today. After that first tornado warning and the craziness that ensued, we got released back to the auditorium, got started and before the kids could even start walking on the stage, another tornado warning was issued. Back to the little hallways we went. The kids were quite entertaining. Someone walked down the hall with some bottles of water and a group of kids all fell to the floor screaming "water, water" like they'd been stranded for a week with nothing to eat or drink. The first time we got released they all yelled and cheered like we had been there for hours (though i do admit, that 45 minutes seemed like hours!)
They eventually just decided to hand the certificates out in the hallways, letting each teacher separately handle their classes. My daughter was quite disappointed with that, they had been practicing and there was a song they learned and were going to sing for the parents and she was excited about the whole presentation of it. It worked out though. She kept saying it was the worst continuation ever, but I was trying to make her realize that it was going to be more memorable that way. Nothing bad happened, it just did not go as planned and that is just a part of life. She will look back on it and laugh, but she did not want to see that today.
After all the excitement, we came home and relaxed for a little bit before practice. I love practice nights. I get to expend some energy, play volleyball and enjoy the company of the kids. I'm learning to be harder on them, still not sure if that's the best for each individual but it is the best for the teams as a whole I think and it was a couple of good practices this week, as well. Summer vacation is fully in session though and a couple of injuries means we're missing some kids. We have a kid with a concussion that has made it to one practice, a kid that fractured her wrist and is out for the season, a kid that's been to one practice and one game and will be missing more. A kid got in the face Wednesday and decided to leave practice, a kid hurt her ankle today and sat out all of practice. A kid came with an ace bandage on his arm today claiming turf burn. Fun in the sun!!
Now it is time to sit down and enjoy the rest of the evening. It is feeling like a Ninja Turtle night and a neck rub type of night. Hopefully, the movie is enjoyable. Until next time.....
