Half-Marathon
So, I have my first half-marathon since 2012 tomorrow. I’m excited, really I’ve been excited about my next one since I’ve done my first one. I really enjoyed the first one. The only problem is, this time I haven’t been able to focus on training like I wanted to.
I say that, but it’s not really a problem for me. The last one came five weeks after I sprained my ankle. I had just hit 7 miles in my training that time around when it happened and then I had to take 2 weeks completely off. I started jogging a mile or two the first week back and I think I got one 5 mile run in before the 13.1. I did well, came in just at my goal time with some HUGE hills.
So, I’m not too worried about not having gotten super long runs in. I got up to 5.5 this time around but I know I’m one of those people that if I find the right pace and don’t push too hard at the beginning, I could probably run a whole marathon without any real training. It’s when I want to go for time that I need that training.
And my husband and I do them together so we don’t really go for time, we take a nice enjoyable run together. In 2012, at about mile 5 I had to start motivating him to keep going and keep up and then at about mile 10, he had to return the favor for me.
What I am most worried about, really, is I have 3 hours of volleyball practice tonight and then we have to leave at 5:30 tomorrow morning to get there. I guess maybe I’m just worrying because I’m nervous. It’ll be good though, it is supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow and a good run always gets me going for the day.
I hope this one gets me going in training because I/we want to do a full marathon in October. I would like to get at least a 15-17 mile run in once or twice to see how I feel before then, maybe even 20 to see if I’m right about finding a pace and being able to go forever. I also want to do a triathlon here eventually. I haven’t done much swim/bike training though so I don’t if it will happen.
Anyways, I’m still excited for tomorrow. I am going to keep my rather slow goal of 1:57:00 (nine minute miles) even though I know I can do better than that.
