6/19/1905 – The first nickelodeon opened. I was very intrigued to see that because all I know is Nickelodeon, the television channel and did not know it actually came from another meaning. But, in 1905, about 450 people came to the grand opening of the first nickelodeon in Pittsburgh. It cost a nickel to attend and Odeon is a Greek word for a theater for musical performances.
6/19/1865 – Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX announcing that the Civil War was over and all remaining slaves in Texas were free.
