9/24/1789 – The Supreme Court of the United States is established. President Washington signed the Judiciary Act of 1789 passed by Congress creating the Supreme Court made up of 6 justices to serve until death or retirement. The Supreme Court was granted jurisdiction over ALL laws, especially ones dealing with constitutionality.
